Robert Calvin (Bob) Taylor, Sr

(August 21, 1928 - August 23, 2011)

Robert Calvin (Bob) Taylor, Sr., 83, of Clovis, New Mexico died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. 

Memorial Services will be Friday, August 26, 2 PM, at St. James Episcopal Church of Clovis with Father Alan Brockmeier officiating. A second memorial will be held at the Margaret, Texas cemetery September 4 at 10:00 AM.

Bob was born August 21, 1928 in Amarillo Texas and graduated from Amarillo High School where he was an undefeated boxer. He attended Texas A & M and the University of Alabama. He met his lifelong companion, Julia Lee Holloway (Julie) Taylor at the University of Alabama and eloped with and married her March 26, 1949 in Columbus, Mississippi.

Bob and Julie made their home in 1949 in Amarillo, Texas where they subsequently had two sons, Robert (Rob) and Randy. They then moved to Tucumcari, New Mexico in 1955, where Bob became the local representative of Farm Bureau Insurance. In 1960, Bob moved to Clovis New Mexico where he was the Agency Manager for Farm Bureau in Curry, Roosevelt, Quay and De Baca Counties, winning Agency Manager of the Year in the Western Farm Bureau Insurance organization four times. Bob was in the insurance business in Clovis and Curry County for the remainder of his career. 

In Amarillo, Bob was active in the Boy Scouts. In Clovis, Bob was a coach and active in the Play Inc. football program, and active in the Clovis Babe Ruth and Connie Mack baseball programs. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends and, being a life long Aggie, rooting for Texas A&M sports teams. He was an outstanding Father to his two sons. 

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Julie Taylor, of Clovis, two sons and their wives, Rob and Grace Taylor of Hobbs, NM and Randy and Pat Taylor of Littleton, Colorado and Cheyenne, Wyoming; five Grandchildren, Lisa Mercier, Hartselle, Alabama, Mark Taylor, Nashville, Tennessee, Kyle Taylor, Lubbock, Texas, Michael Taylor, of Sheridan, Colorado Lee Taylor of Greeley, Colorado and three Great Grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorial gifts be directed to either St. James Episcopal Church, 1117 North Main, Clovis, New Mexico 88101 or the Margaret Cemetery Fund, c/o Jackie Shultz, Route 1, Box 268, Crowell, Texas 79227.
